Power
Supply is an electronic device that supplies electric energy to an
electrical load. The primary function of a power supply is to convert
one form of electrical energy to another and, as a result, power
supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters.
Power Supplies are categorized into different forms
- AC Power Supply – An AC power supply stands for alternating current supply, the waveform is sinusoidal. There are two kind of AC power supply, single phase and three phase. Single phase voltage supply ranges from 230-240 volts. Three phase supply consist of three phase namely R phase Y phase B phase ease phase having a phase difference of 120 degrees. As transmission of ac supply is cheaper than dc, so ac power generation is preferred in most of the places.
- DC Power Supply - DC means Direct Current supply. It looks like a parallel line to the x axis line. For getting DC power supply we need to connect rectification circuit
- Switch Mode Power Supply - Switched-mode power supplies are usually regulated, and to keep the output voltage constant, the power supply employs a feedback controller that monitors current drawn by the load.
- AC to DC Power Supply - Conversion of AC to DC is done through rectification process using half wave n full wave rectifiers.
- Linear Regulators - The function of a linear voltage regulator is to convert a varying DC voltage to a constant, often specific, lower DC voltage. In addition, they often provide a current limiting function to protect the power supply and load from over current
